The Story of a Sad Bee

It used to be a social bee,
Tickling her friends whenever she was free.
She chuckled at all times,
And loved the art of mime.
She would stand proudly on her hinds,
And wave her silvery wings to her kind.
She swayed to the melodious wind,
And bowed with flourish to the flowers.

But that was all in the past,
Now her face is always downcast.
Her antennas droop gloomily,
And she sniffs not the fragrant blooms.
Her bright yellow stripes have slimmed and no longer gleams,
While her black stripes have plumped and bleakly beams.

She drowns her sorrow in a snifter shimmering with brandy,
And sheds a tear at her solitary reflection.
No friends to give her directions,
She feels as incomplete as a fraction.

She misses the hive of activity,
But blames it on her over sensitivity.
She denies that she is doleful,
Assuring herself that she is joyful.

She buries herself in the rush of work,
Painstakingly collecting pollen and nectar,
But never once stopped to savour the sweetness of life.

She yearns to hear the buzz of her buddies,
The croak of the froggies,
The gossip of the nosey flowers,
And the swishing of the grasses.
She looks around but is greeted
By a desolate meadow bowing sadly- defeated.
She collapses forlornly, like a crumbling fortress,
And weeps genuinely, unlike an actress.
